Stuart invests in water of the future

City of Stuart Water Tower

Stuart, FL - The City of Stuart is pleased to report that construction on a new Floridan Aquifer Test Production Well commenced on Wednesday, February 5th. The $1.3 million contract was awarded to All Webb’s Enterprises, Inc. including a $100,000 grant awarded by the South Florida Water Management District as part of its Water Protection and Sustainability Program.

Construction of the test production well is expected to be completed in September of this year.  The project is a first step in order for Stuart to diversify its water supply and ultimately reduce the City’s reliance on surficial water.

Due to emerging contaminants and potential for saltwater intrusion in the surficial aquifer, the City is also proactively planning to phase in a 3.0 MGD Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Facility by the year 2032, utilizing the Floridan Aquifer System as an alternative water source.  Investing in the Floridan Aquifer as an alternate water supply would both diversify the City’s water supply while adding system flexibility to ensure that the City meets its mission of supplying the highest quality drinking water to its customers.
